On Monday 2nd of October 41 walkers, representing all three walking groups, had a day out at Whitby, where they followed the Dracula trail around the cliff tops at Saltwick Bay. After earlier fears about the weather, when strong winds were forecast which could have caused difficulties on the cliff tops, the decision was taken to complete the walk, and it turned out to be a good one.
The winds never reached the speeds that were forecast (did Mr Hudson get it wrong again?).
The group walked alongside the river before turning to go uphill and out of the town. Once at the top, the route changed into decent but narrow paths, the group continuing to make progress walking through a farm yard and past some holiday homes to the lighthouse.
From here they turned and made their way along the cliff tops on the Cleveland Way, with good views out to sea across Saltwick Bay. Eventually arriving at the Abbey, only the 199 steps to negotiate before sitting down to a plate of Whitby’s famous fish and chips.
We would like to thank the recce team, the walk leader, the back markers, and also a big thank you to the ladies who organise our days out programme and transport.
