The Strollers Tues 23rd April
Bracken Hill to Oughtibridge.
From the top of Bracken Hill we made our way up to Woodhead Road. Walking through Grenoside woods, a pleasant walk which we have done on numerous occasions and on turning back we had some excellent views of North Sheffield. On reaching Woodhead Road, we had some excellent views of Stocksbridge Valley. We then walked steadily down to Coronation Park at Oughtibridge, which is a nice place to have a lunch break, after which we walked alongside the river Don and made our way to Hillsborough and the end of our walk.
Monday 29th April.
Today we take a train ride to Kiveton Park. From the station we walk along the Cuckoo Walk by the Chesterfield canal and after a short distance we turn and leave the canal behind us. Walking steadily uphill we make our way up to Anston and cross the A57 road, then make our way down in to Stones Wood. What a pleasant walk this is, the Bluebells in bloom and the smell of Wild Garlic. Later we can see the rock formations where the stone that was used to build the houses of parliament was taken from. Crossing the Stones Wood River, and passing beneath the railway several times we make our to the bottom of the valley. Turning to make our way back we walk uphill where we again pass some fascinating rock formations, also for those with keen eyes wild orchids can be spotted. Eventually we reach and cross the A57 again and walk through the village, making our way back to the railway station and the end of our walk.
